Saturday, June 24th … Day 49 … Prairie Creek State Park, California – Hiking in the Park
Slept in again, light breakfast, packed for a day hike within the Park, over 75 miles of marked trails within the park so we had a lot to choose from, planned a hike that crossed a few different trails picking up the first one right from our campsite. This forest again is old growth, massive Coastal Redwoods tower over everything, wherever they fell in the past thousand years is where they lay today, trees growing out of fallen trees, the forest is stuffed with plant growth, nearly impossible to venture off the trail. Not a spot to put up a tent if you wanted to. About half of the hike was uphill. In awe of the amount and size of these beasts, you won’t see your everyday tourist out here, we saw no one in 4 hours, this is not a roadside attraction this is California north woods. Amazing! I can’t see over the top of these trees when they are lying on their side, some we walked under others we walked through, some we walked on! I figured the hike at about 6 miles long (according to their map), ended up closer to 10! Found errors on their map and pin pointed them to the Rangers at the visitor’s center. Our time in California has been absolutely crazy, from spending time with family, swimming in the Pacific, the Big Sur, coastal route 1 and the giant Redwoods, Wow! Off to Oregon tomorrow! California! Thank you! Good bye!
The plants are growing on a fallen log that is taller than us!
Carol's Fit Bit rang up 23,000 steps today! Hard to duplicate this day in the gym!
California Northwest was spectacular!
