Thursday, June 22 … Day 47 … Prairie Creek State Park, California

Here we are in northwest California camping in an old growth forest just a mile (as the crow flies) from the ocean. Deep dense woods, green everywhere, thick hanging moss on the tree limbs resemble felt dangling from an Elk’s antlers, speaking of which we have seen quite a few today, saw a small herd of about 10 bulls and only one cow sporting a rather large smile. Only a 100 mile drive today, stopped in the town of Fortuna to use a dumping station, do the laundry and get some groceries, nice to get back to civilization(for a short while). Met “Pat”, his wife(from Washington state) and daughter who were traveling/visiting family through to CA., we swapped a few stories and he gave me as much info on places to see along the way that he could in such a short time, enjoyed his company. We stopped again down the road in the town of Eureka I had to acquire a small grease gun(forgot mine from home) for some trailer maintenance and we discovered Mike’s Burgers, kind of like the White Hut at home except better, His specialty was his signature chili sauce, I opted for his Brady Burger(a Pats fan in CA.), a double cheese, the works with bacon, chili and sironche sauce, will have to hike this one off. We were greeted at Prairie Creek by quite a few Elk feeding in the meadow, got settled in then headed out to the ocean via Davison Road, Dirt, two way, 4WD to check out the area, fabulous & somewhat isolated, rough surf, miles of sandy beach, no one around, we are in, be back tomorrow…..
