Tuesday & Wednesday, June 20th & 21st… Day 45, 46 … Humboldt Redwoods State Park, California
Happy Summer Solstice 2017! Nice night’s sleep, big breakfast, we will hang around here for the next 2 days. We are in the big woods now, very little light makes it through to the forest floor, pretty quiet except for the sound of the tree tops swaying back and forth in the gentle breeze. Temps are 55/75 today and tomorrow. Our timing was right again, not too many folks around, had the bikes out on the main(the only road except for Rt101) road this morning. Pedaled down to the town of Weot, on the Avenue of Giants, small store, not opened and a post office, blink and you missed it. Saw only a couple cars, easy ride with great views of the river and of course those monster Redwoods everywhere you look. The area is not commercialized at all, no restaurants or motels, narrow roads with the Redwoods right on the very edge of the tar, little room for error when towing especially in the campground, very tight, again we are glad we stayed small or this place would be off the menu had we purchased a larger RV/trailer. We took a small hike through the forest, totally in awe of these massive trees, did not expect to see so many. Again we are not plugged in, the solar has been reliable, never had to charge the batteries in 10 days, using the electricity(12 volt system) as needed, so far all the water provided by the campgrounds has been clean and fresh even in areas where the water was trucked in. We do filter our drinking water. Tomorrow we travel to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, CA. north of here for the next 3 days, the temps will cool a little more as we will be very near the ocean……
Putting things in perspective!
No traffic lights up here! no sah!
Should be Humbling, not Humboldt!
